ESDO’s Leadership Featured in GlobalDev: Advancing the Global Dialogue on Climate Resilience and Water Security

We are proud to share an important international publication!
Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO) is delighted to announce the publication of a significant article titled “Water insecurity is shaping climate mobility in northern Bangladesh” in GlobalDev, an international platform connecting development research with policy and practice.

Distinguished Authors:
Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman
Founder and Executive Director, Eco-Social Development Organization (ESDO), Bangladesh.
Dr. Selima Akhter
Researcher and Principal, Eco College, Thakurgaon, Bangladesh.

Published on 14 October 2026, the article highlights the critical relationship between water insecurity, climate change, livelihoods and human mobility in northern Bangladesh, particularly in the drought-prone communities of Naogaon.

Drawing on research findings and ESDO’s field-level development experience, the authors explore how increasing water scarcity threatens livelihoods, intensifies women’s responsibilities and influences difficult decisions about migration and displacement.

A Powerful Message for Climate Action Climate resilience is not simply about preventing migration. It is about empowering communities with the freedom to choose—to remain safely in their communities or to move with dignity.

The publication emphasizes the importance of investing in sustainable water management, climate-resilient livelihoods, inclusive local governance and women’s meaningful participation in decision-making.

This publication represents another meaningful contribution to ESDO’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based development, climate justice and sustainable community resilience.

ESDO extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Md. Shahid Uz Zaman and Dr. Selima Akhter for bringing the realities and voices of climate-vulnerable communities in northern Bangladesh to the global development discourse.
